Every bed starts as a plank of solid wood
FJ Craft began in a small workshop in West Yorkshire with a simple frustration: too many beds looked good in a photograph and fell apart within three years. Flimsy frames, stapled fabric, storage lids that sagged after a few months of use.
We thought bedroom furniture should be built the way it used to be — from proper timber, joined properly, by people who know what they're doing.
ten years later, that's still exactly how we work.
How We Build
Every FJ Craft bed is made to order in our Drighlington workshop. Nothing arrives here pre-assembled from overseas.
We start with the frame. Solid hardwood, sourced from sustainably managed forests, cut and joined by hand. This is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether your bed lasts five years or twenty-five.
Then the upholstery. Fabric is cut, stretched and finished by hand. Every panel is checked for tension and alignment before it moves on — because a crooked seam on a headboard is something you'll notice every single night.
Then the mechanism. Our ottoman beds use heavy-duty gas pistons rated to lift a full mattress with minimal effort and hold it open safely while both your hands are free. We test every single lift before it leaves the floor.
Then we check it again. No bed ships until it's passed final inspection.

Our timber comes from responsibly managed forests. Furniture built to last decades is the most sustainable furniture there is.
