FAQs
Can I place my order over the phone?
We take orders through our secure online checkout only. If you have questions before ordering, call us on 01924 926117 (Mon–Fri, 10am–6pm) and we'll talk you through it — you can then complete the order online.
Can I order a free fabric swatch first?
Yes, and we'd recommend it. Fabric colour looks very different under shop lighting than it does in your own bedroom. Request free swatches using the link at the top of any page.
Do you offer finance?
Yes. You can spread the cost at 0% interest, selected at checkout. Approval is subject to status.
Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?
Every bed is made to order, so please contact us as soon as you can. If your order hasn't entered production yet, we can usually amend or cancel it. Once it's in the workshop, changes may not be possible.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards, PayPal, and 0% interest finance at checkout.
Delivery
How long does delivery take?
4 to 7 working days from your order. Every bed is made to order in our own workshop, so that window covers building it as well as delivering it.
How much does delivery cost?
Free if you're within around 30 miles of our Dewsbury workshop — that covers most of West Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. Everywhere else we deliver to is a flat £30. The correct rate is calculated automatically at checkout once you enter your postcode.
Where do you deliver?
Mainland England and Wales, plus the parts of Scotland within our delivery network. We're currently unable to deliver to the Scottish Highlands and islands, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands or the Isles of Scilly.
If you're not sure whether we cover your postcode, call us on 01924 926117 before ordering.
What's included in the delivery?
Every order comes with two-man, room-of-choice delivery. Our team brings the bed to the room you want it in — not the doorstep, not the hallway. You'll also get tracking updates by text and email.
Do you offer assembly?
Yes. Professional assembly is £30 and completely optional — add it on the product page before checkout. Our team builds the bed in position and takes every piece of packaging away with them. If you'd rather build it yourself, full instructions are included in the box.
Can you take away my old bed?
Yes. Old bed removal is £30, added at checkout. Please have the old bed dismantled and accessible before our team arrives.
When do I choose my delivery date?
You'll select your preferred delivery date at checkout. The day before, we'll text and email you a delivery window along with your driver's details.
What if nobody's home on the delivery day?
Let us know in advance and we'll rebook at no charge. If we arrive and nobody's available without prior notice, a redelivery charge may apply — we've already paid a two-person crew for the run.
What should I check before delivery day?
Three things save most of the problems we see:
- Measure your access route. Headboards and ottoman bases are large single pieces. Check doorways, stairwells, tight landings and low ceilings. Dimensions are listed on every product page.
- Clear the room and the route. If you're replacing a bed, have it dismantled beforehand unless you've booked our removal service.
- Tell us about anything unusual. Spiral staircase, top-floor flat with no lift, restricted parking, gated development — a quick heads-up means we bring the right team and equipment.
Someone over 18 also needs to be home to sign for the delivery.
About FJ Craft
Do you have a showroom?
No — we're a bespoke manufacturer rather than a retailer. Every bed is built to order in our Dewsbury workshop and dispatched directly from there to you. There's no showroom floor and no middleman, which is a large part of why our prices are what they are.
If you'd like to see and feel the fabrics before you commit, order our free swatches — they arrive by post and let you check the colour in your own bedroom light.
Where are your beds made?
Every FJ Craft bed is handmade in our West Yorkshire workshop from solid hardwood, sourced from sustainably managed forests.
What does "bespoke" actually mean here?
Your bed doesn't exist until you order it. Size, colour, headboard style, storage configuration and mattress are all chosen by you, and the bed is then built to that specification. Nothing is pulled off a shelf.
Beds & Storage
What's the difference between a Divan bed and an Ottoman bed?
It comes down to how the storage works. Divan beds have built-in pull-out drawers at the sides — quick, everyday access for clothes and bedding. Ottoman beds use a gas-lift mechanism that raises the entire base, opening up storage across the full footprint of the bed.
Ottomans hold considerably more and suit bulkier items like suitcases and spare duvets. Divans are easier to get into because there's nothing to lift, but you need clear floor space beside the bed to open the drawers.
Which way does the ottoman lid open?
Our ottoman bases are front-opening — the lid lifts from the foot of the bed towards the headboard. This means you only need clearance at the end of the bed, not at the sides, which makes them a good fit for rooms where the bed sits against a wall.
Are the ottoman gas-lift mechanisms safe and easy to lift?
Yes. We use premium heavy-duty gas pistons rated to carry the weight of a full mattress, so lifting takes very little physical effort. The piston holds the base securely open, leaving both your hands free to reach inside.
How much storage does an ottoman base hold?
The storage area runs the full length and width of the bed, with roughly [__]cm of usable depth. That's enough for spare duvets, pillows, seasonal clothing and suitcases. Larger bed sizes give proportionally more space.
Can I choose which side the divan drawers go on?
Yes. Drawer configuration is selectable when you order — 2 drawers on the left, 2 on the right, 4 drawers, or no storage at all.
What sizes do you make?
Single (3FT), Small Double (4FT), Double (4FT6), King (5FT) and Super King (6FT). Exact width and length for each size is listed on every product page.
Can I customise the headboard?
Yes. Every bed comes with a choice of headboard:
- 24" headboard — sits above the mattress, included at no extra cost. Suits most rooms and works with a standard bed height.
- 54" floor-standing headboard — reaches the floor for a taller, fully upholstered look. Becomes the focal point of the room.
Headboard colour and base type are also selectable on the product page.
What colours are available?
Beige, Black, Blue, Grey, Mink, Pink and Silver. Because screens display colour differently, we'd strongly recommend ordering free swatches before you decide.
How much clearance do I need around the bed?
Leave at least 60cm on the side you get out of. For ottoman beds, allow clearance at the foot of the bed so the lid can lift fully. For divans, allow around 50cm on the drawer side.
Mattresses
Is a mattress included in the price?
Yes. Every bed price includes a mattress — there's no separate charge and no second delivery. You choose your firmness when you order, and it arrives with the bed on the same day.
What firmness options do I get?
Four, all included at no extra cost:
- Soft — more give and cushioning. Suits side sleepers and lighter builds.
- Medium — balanced support with some contour. The most popular choice and a safe pick for most people and couples.
- Firm — minimal sinkage, maximum support. Suits front and back sleepers and heavier builds.
- Orthopaedic — extra-firm support designed to keep the spine aligned. Often chosen by people with back or joint discomfort.
Which firmness should I choose?
As a rough guide: side sleepers usually prefer soft or medium, back sleepers medium or firm, and front sleepers firm. Heavier builds generally need a firmer mattress to stay properly supported. If you're sharing and you can't agree, medium is the usual compromise.
If you're still unsure, order anyway and use the 60-night trial — that's exactly what it's for.
Are your mattresses suitable for allergies?
Yes, our mattresses are hypoallergenic — suitable whether or not you suffer from allergies.
Will I feel my partner moving?
Our responsive spring system absorbs motion and isolates movement, so you shouldn't be disturbed if your partner turns over during the night.
Can I use my own existing mattress instead?
You can, though as the mattress is already included in the price you wouldn't save anything by doing so. Our bases take any standard UK-size mattress. Very old or sagging mattresses may not sit flat on an ottoman base.
Quality & Safety
Do your products meet UK fire safety regulations?
Yes — every FJ Craft product fully complies with UK fire and safety regulations.
How long will the bed last?
Our frames are built from solid hardwood using traditional joinery, and we back them with a 5-year warranty. With normal use, they're built to last considerably longer than that.
Trial, Warranty & Returns
What is the 60-night risk-free trial?
Sleep on your bed for up to 60 nights. If it isn't right for you, get in touch and we'll arrange a refund or a replacement. We'd rather you had the right bed than the one you happened to order.
What does the 5-year warranty cover?
Every FJ Craft product comes with a comprehensive 5-year warranty covering manufacturing defects and workmanship. If something goes wrong within that period, contact our support team and we'll arrange a repair, a replacement, or another suitable resolution.
How do I make a warranty claim?
Email us with your order number, a description of the problem and a few photographs. We'll come back to you within 48 hours with next steps.
Something arrived damaged — what should I do?
Please tell the delivery team if you spot it on the day, and contact us within 48 hours with photographs of both the damage and the packaging. We'll arrange a replacement part or a full replacement at no cost to you.
